I think that it really depends on other factors when looking at the candidates, such as attitude, motivation, drive etc. That being said, in this situation you mention marketing, rather than just sales. Marketing is a career that I think requires more of an innovative business background than simply making sales. If this person is in a higher position of marketing a product or service, rather than just pushing it through sales, they would need a college degree.

In addition, there is a lot to be said for a college degree over pure experience. Though the applicant may have five years of sales experience, they do not have the social or cultural capital that the other applicant has gained going through college. I think that capital, and experience you gain from the collegiate experience makes the first applicant actually more suited to survive in the working world. If on top of that they also have nearly a 4.0, then I would say no doubt, they are more qualified than someone who just has experience in the area.

As a final note, if this is in fact more of a sales based job, that does not have as much to do with understanding marketing or business, then you may want to choose the LESS qualified person. This is because the college student may be OVER qualified for the position, and either quit after realizing it is not challenging enough, or pass on the job because it can't pay them enough. The less qualified person would actually be happy with the pay, and maybe work better in that position. That would be the only reason I would hirer the second applicant.

let tell me a short story
once a general ueducated soldier of a king asked the king both of us doing work for same hours but why the commender will get meor benefit than that of me?
without a word the king sent the soldier to investigate an event in one of his territory. The soldier reported that there were a ritual.

Then the king sent the commender to the territory (the commender did not know that the soldier went there) & the commender reported that there was a ritual & he indicated the time, cause, effect, future possibility, solution, related people, what can be done by the king etc.

i would prefer the educated one if he is really talented, has the willingness to develop himself, and has the capability.

Sales is one profession for which a college degree is not normally required. Experience beats a standard education any day.
